As another year is moving along at race pace, I thought I might try getting in a good week of walking, since the temperatures have finally dropped to normal fall levels. A number of years ago, I walked 62 miles in one week, down in Florida. I can't remember why I did that, other than I think there wasn't much to do and I figured I might as well walk.
Well, this week, it is the weather that inspired me to try and get to 50 miles (I had no desire to try and reproduce the old record). The week started well, as I put in 7 miles a day, going out 2-3 times during the day. Then the weather that had made things easier for me, decided to test me, as a nor'easter came in and decided to stay a while.
We have not been hit very hard where we live. I assume the shoreline will suffer some, as Route 1 down by Beathy Beach and Dewey has closed. This happens often during storms coming off the ocean, since there is not much of a barrier in the state park area.
On Saturday, the first heavy duty storm day, I was able to get in 7 miles, mostly under dry conditions. The wind was mild as well. Overnight, more rain, more wind and today, Sunday, September 27, I have only gotten out for one mile. Finally, the rain held off and I was able to get in 5 miles for the day, totaling 47 for the week, the second most since May of 2021.
