What's happening at the Magnolia Gardens

When I go into my garden with a spade, and dig a bed, I feel such an exhilaration and health that I discover that I have been defrauding myself all this time in letting others do for me what I should have done with my own hands.

September plantings

As we move into the middle of September, I am experimenting with starting to grow veggies for the late fall and winter. I began using LED grow lights last Christmas with good success, so now I am starting even earlier, focusing mainly on lettuce and tomatoes (Tiny Tim and Vilma).

I also started some broccoli seedlings to see if I can still get a crop before the deep frost comes along. The broccoli will be planted in the stone raised bed where I put netting to protect the seedlings from bugs (hopefully). I will put plastic over the bed later in October when the possibility of frost comes along.
