Fall is here.

October 26, 2026
Although we are in zone 7b, we just had our third day of light frost overnight. The first two nights caused no damage to our tomatoes and peppers. I haven't gone out yet to see how things are this morning. For the rest of the week, temperatures will not drop below 45º, according to weather reports

Finished metal raised beds

October 16, 2026
Today was another one of those beautiful fall days (Friday, October 16). The day started of misty with plenty of clouds. By noon, the sun had popped out and temperatures went from the low 60's to 77º. I was able to get in 5 miles of walking before dinner, take the netting off the blueberry bushes, cleaning away some of the weeds, and put together the 4th metal raised bed. I want to have two beds for spring growing of broccoli and cabbage, thus these raised beds will have netting over them.

It is already the middle of October and we have been having some great fun with the weather. Some days are just beautiful, cool in the morning and evening, comfortable in the middle of the day. Yet, we have now had 3 days where the temperature has hit 84º. It feels more like Florida than Delaware. Today (10/15) was supposed to be cloudy, followed by a few hours of rain and then cloudy again. Well, thank goodness the weather reports are about as accurate as experts, as the temperatures stayed in the high 60's and the clouds went away with the sun in their place.

The initial metal raised beds put into the backyard.

October 10, 2026
The cool weather gave me a nice opportunity to do some work in the backyard, setting up my metal raised beds. I have a mixture of peat moss, cow manure with compost and dirt from my back garden where I grew potatoes and peas. I was able to fill two of the raised beds equaling about 10 feet by 2 1/2 feet.
